Episode Discussion # 414 - "A Winter's Tale"
While the rest of the class is on the ski trip, Dawson stays behind to care for a near-death Mr. Brooks, but he's overwhelmed when he's asked to make an impossibly hard decision. Meanwhile, there's a lot more than skiing going on when the senior trip doesn't go exactly as planned. The evening takes an unexpectedly romantic turn for best friends Jack and Jen... while Pacey and Joey find their own ways to keep warm on the cold, snowy night. __________________
Pacey to Joey- The simple act of being in love with you is enough for me.
Angel- I love you. I try not to, but I can't stop. Buffy- Me, me, too. I can't either. |

Sad episode for me for a few reasons. As a Die hard D/Jer I always wanted Joey's first time to be with Dawson and the fact it was not was extremely disappointing for me. I thought that Mr. Brooks dying was very sad and I felt for Dawson being in that kind of position cannot be easy. I hated how Pacey brought up Dawson during his talk with Joey in the cabin. The end scene I have only scene once when it first aired because whenever it's on TBS or something it just makes me turn my head. I thought the Jack and Jen scenes had good emotion.

The Dawson and Mr. Brooks story bored me to tears in this episode. I loved the Jack and Jen scenes. Joey and Jack's talk. And of course.... the end scene. __________________

First of all a big thanks and shout-out to the writers of this episode for providing some of the funniest lines of DC and keeping the anti-PJ thread pumping No, really, thank-you
I have mixed feelings about the Dawson and Mr Brooks storyline. I appreciate that they were showing DJ connectedness but I thought they trivialised it in the unrealistic resolution of the Andy Griffiths, Brooks and Ellie triangle. DJ's phone conversation was bittersweet. Drue was still adorable. Loved Jack and Jen. __________________

I actually felt bad for Dawson in this episode. Who knew it could happen? I kind of liked Mr. Brooks, he was an amusing guy when not angry. It irritates me that they killed him off, just to do the lame storyline of Dawson giving the money to Joey for tuition. Why not have Joey take out a loan like everyone else?! Blah.
And hell, I will say it... YAY that Dawson didn't go on the trip! I am a meanie, I know. But he is such a downer. Jen falling on her ass so many times was amusing. Even if the falls didn't look real AT ALL. And her make-out scene with Jack made me smile. And the P/J storyline?? AWWWWW I loved it. Almost too much?? hehe |

As a p/jer i of course loved all of this episode especially the beautiful final scene
Loved the Jack and Jen scenes so sweet. Dawson and Brooks bored me but i thought the scene of him and gretchen and the family watching one of his 'pictures' was sweet. __________________

Erin, I too could have handled a Joey/Drue fling - would have been fun

I actually enjoyed this episode ... but I felt the Mr. Brooks storyline was not holding it's weight. I loved them giving us a hook-up between Jen/Jack, that was actually quite shocking. As for the PJ love scene, I have to admit, it was a truly romantic scene. I think the campiness of the episode bothered me ... with Drue and everyone at the Pizza place, etc. I don't know ... I never like when the show does stuff like that.

Three words:
"Ten my love." Almost as good as "I remember everything." Almost. __________________

He could not finish; it was only now that Ron was here again that Harry fully realized how much his absence had cost them. "She's like my sister," he went on. "I love her like a sister and I reckon she feels the same way about me. It's always been like that. I thought you knew." |

One of the several stupid things writers did to make a point or create an idea. In this case, even if they were trying to say DJ would find their way, I thought it was stupid. Quote:

I have to actually re-watch this episode (and I can thanks to my S4 DVD) to give a good review.
