The Official Dawson's Creek Board Rewatch Thread

"Uncharted Waters" ~ 2x12

Synopsis: The gang explores uncharted waters when Dawson and Pacey go on a father-son fishing trip with Mitch Leery and Pacey's critical and abusive father, Sheriff John Witter, who uses the trip to tell Pacey how useless he is. But tensions really begin to rise when Pacey invites Jack along, who tries to make amends with a reluctant Dawson. Meanwhile, Jen, Joey, Andie and Abby spend a day with Gail doing a report on teenage girls in the consumer world with Abby naturally not passing up the opportunity to insult and provoke conflicts and tension between Mrs. Leery and the girls.

We would like to invite everyone to participate in our re-watch, be it first-time
viewer or long-time fan. This is our opportunity to relive the Dawson's Creek days and to
discuss our favorite moments, things we would like to change or maybe totally new
things we never noticed before. We will watch one episode every two weeks. Due to our different time-zones we decided to not name an exact
time and date, so everyone can decide for themselves when they watch the episode.
We will update this thread every second Friday, when we start a new episode, so all discussion
can take place in here too. Have Fun! :group_hug:

Lo and behold, the girls' facial expressions to watching a porno movie.

I like how their expressions pretty much fit each character's personality.

The scene when Pacey talks to his passed out father on the beach. Heart-breaking. :bawl:

I agree, it gets to me every time I watch it.

This was sort of a boring episode to me in parts but it did have some great moments.

I was glad to see more of Pacey's home life so we can understand why he is the way that he is. It just sucks that his father is so hard on him. I wish Pacey would stand up to him more or try to talk to him. The scene on the beach was by far one of the best scenes on the show. SO HEARTBREAKING. I cried the first time I saw it. I love Pacey so much my bb doesnt deserve that! :bawl:. The scene at the end where Dawson told him there were people that supported him was really sweet. I love their friendship.

The girls hanging out was interesting I guess but once again Joey was getting on my nerves with how rude she was to Jen. And Jen was 100% right in what she said to Joey about Joey being insecure. I was glad that at the end they seemed to come to an understanding, I just hope it sticks. And the scene with Gail/Joey was really sweet. (As was the scene with Dawson and his father.)

Abby is just awful, I seriously don't get why people put up with her. Being a little bit snarky is one thing, she's just flat out rude. Her excuse about having a normal family like was BS. Thats not an excuse to create drama. I was glad when Andie stood up to her. I just hope something changes soon.

This episode was both great and hard to watch for a lot of it. I'm not a big Dawson fan, so I liked it when Pacey yelled at him on the boat when he wouldn't stop giving Pacey crap for inviting Jack like it was some horrible thing. I mean he's the brother of Pacey's girlfriend, he had every right to invite him along, but of course Dawson made it all about him. I also liked it when Jack called Dawson on his crap as well, but I was glad that Dawson finally caught on by the end of the episode when he talked to his dad, that was a nice moment.

I loved the way Pacey took the heat for the broken fishing rod even though it was Jack that actually put it there. Again Pacey showing how selfless he is. And I agree with you about that scene on the beach, one of the best performances in the series and very unforgettable. You felt Pacey's pain and just wanted to give him a hug.

On a more shallow note, Pacey was super HOT in that episode.

There's just something about Josh in shades :thud:

I actually saw Dawson's point on that though. Jack is dating Dawson's ex, he obviously wouldnt' want to spend the day with him, and its as crappy of Pacey to invite him without even warning Dawson first. I love Pacey but I cant side with him there.

pacey/josh was always super hot, but he definitely starting looking more manly in season 2 lol

Agree to disagree on the whole Dawson attitude there and maybe because Dawson always made things about himself and it took a lot for him to see outside of that, so that was just one more example of it.

Sure Pacey could have said something, but Pacey apologized as soon as he saw Jack coming toward the boat. It's not like he did it on purpose to antagonize Dawson. And when he did apologize to Dawson and told him he completely forgot, Dawson really should have let it drop. He didn't have to be happy about it, but he didn't have to keep nagging Pacey about it either.

i just think it deserved a heads up is all.

A heads up would have been nice, but he did admit that he forgot. It was just an unfortunate situation.

Alexa 03-08-2017 11:31 AM

but him saying he forget felt more like a lie to me, because he knew how dawson would react so he wanted to avoid that and pretend he forgot later on.

Pacey should've told Dawson ahead of time given the whole Jack/Joey thing and the Dawson/Joey history. Dawson was understandably upset given Jack's attitude about kissing Joey while DJo were together. Maybe he shouldn't have taken that out on Pacey but I thought it was understandable. Pacey had other things on his mind, like his anxiety about a father/son weekend so that's understandable too. I didn't like that Pacey took out his frustrations with his dad out on Dawson but it's understandable. He's starved for his father's approval and Dawson gets it while he doesn't. And Dawson has a great father. I think Dawson didn't see it because it was hard to see. As someone who has seen a similar situation firsthand, it's not always noticeable to outsiders. And the writing was kind of subtle with that, his dad made a few offhanded comments but nothing that you'd think much of. I like that Dawson and Pacey helped each other in this episode. Pacey helped Dawson see Mitch in a different light and that Dawson helped Pacey see that there are other people in his life who think he's great. That DP scene at the end was really great and showcased what I liked about their friendship in s2. The Pacey breakdown was great and well acted. I really liked how he spoke about Andie, you can just feel his love for her in that scene even though she isn't there. I liked that we got some backstory on Pacey and why he has a loser complex.

I'm an admitted Dawson fan so I liked this episode for him as well. I like that he started to see Pacey, Jack, and Mitch differently here. Dawson is starting to see his father as a human being and I think that's hard for any teen to see. Dawson has expectations as a son but I like that he's starting to see a bit of himself in Mitch. That Mitch/Dawson scene on the docks and later on the porch were so great. John and James played off each other so well and they were definitely a highlight of this episode for me.

The girls side of the episode wasn't as strong for me but still enjoyable. I like that we got to learn more about Jen and Joey's feelings towards each other. I think they were being honest in the hallway and in the living room during the interview. Joey feels like she's being replaced and that Jen is so much better than she could ever be. And Jen feels like she's criticized no matter which role she plays. It makes me wonder who the true Jen is since we've seen so many versions of her since the show started. I wonder if that was intentional on the writers part or if they just weren't sure what to do with her.

JJH85 06-21-2017 07:27 PM

I'm glad you brought up that point about Pacey having a lot on his mind which led to him forgetting to tell Dawson about Jack. I think Josh's acting in this episode was incredible, he's so talented.

I too loved that final Pacey/Dawson scene, it really showcases their friendship.

I also liked the Dawson/Mitch scene when Dawson realizes that Mitch is human and Dawson steps back and for once doesn't take him for granted. It was definitely a growing moment for Dawson.

My favourite parts of the girls side of the storyline is the Joey/Jen scenes. That is really the first time you see them begin to resemble friends. I also liked when they found Dawson's porn and watched, it was funny.
