Brainy was Kara's true love in the comics for a long time. Kara was actually a member of the "Legion of Superheroes" for several years and had a continuing relationship with him.
Unfortunately, "Crisis on Infinite Earths" happened in the comics, and she died (the TV show's version left that part out of the crossover, so she's still alive and well on TV
).
The comics brought Kara back again in the early 2000s. She meets Brainy and they fall in love again, but when the New 52 happened, Brainy/The Legion ceased to exist.
Then we had yet another reboot a few years ago, and now,
The Legion of Superheroes have been reintroduced in the comics, but so far Kara hasn't joined them.
