No matter what, he'd be right by her side. Especially as her lover ... during the blockade, during the Cardassian Resistance. He knew that death in those events was possible, and probable. For somebody who started his life alone, he found his home -- it was Kira. And if his life was to end, then he'd go out with her. He had memories of what life was like without her, after the Gaia Odo lost Kira. So for him, survival without Kira wasn't a life he wanted.
