Curse of the White Knight Teases a Romance Between Batman and [SPOILER]
Quote:
When it comes to matters of the heart, Bruce Wayne has never had much luck. More often than not, he's been on his own, with nary a lasting romantic relationship. Sure, the character has recently taken things with Selina Kyle to the next level, but it's sure been a long and bumpy road for these two -- and it's not over yet. However, the same cannot be said for writer/artist Sean Gordon Murphy's White Knight universe.

In the world of Batman: White Knight, Bruce Wayne only has two sidekicks in Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon. There's no Catwoman for him to love, and he's recently lost Alfred. Bruce might have the family he created for himself, but he's also very much alone. However, Batman: Curse of the White Knight may be setting up a happy ending for Bruce Wayne, of a sort. In Curse of the White Knight #3 of the series, Murphy teases a romance between the Dark Knight and Harley Quinn that makes an off amount of sense.

In Curse of the White Knight #3, Bruce is still reeling from Azrael's attack on his mansion. The Batcave, Wayne Manor, his arsenal -- they're all gone, destroyed by his newest enemy. Batman is quick to deduce the connection between Azrael and Joker, and he next finds himself facing Harleen Quinzel in need of her help in interrogating Joker. The former Harley Quinn is different than the one we know in the regular DC Universe. She was revealed to be the true mastermind of the events of Batman: White Knight, and she is much saner and more intelligent than anyone gave her credit for.

Now, Harleen is pregnant with Jack Napier's twins, and she's trying to to do it all on her own, but she might not have to handle that alone for long.

When Batman and Harleen meet, it's clear that there has been a shift in their dynamic. He helps her build her crib, and there is a certain amount of respect between the two characters. What's more, Bruce takes things even further by revealing his secret identity to Harleen -- a true sign of trust. Later, Batman even leaps at the Joker when the Clown Prince of Crime makes a snide comment about Harley.

But the teases don't stop there. As Batman and Harleen continue their investigation at Arkham Asylum, she remarks that he is handsome and teases him by saying she believes he likes her. The two then have a humorous back-and-forth about him knowing her dress size. However, it's not all jokes. The relationship between Bruce and Harleen grows deeper when she learns that he is an orphan, and the pair bond over their need to have a real family.

While there's no guarantee that the two will end up together, it sure looks like Curse of the White Knight may be building towards a relationship between Bruce and Harleen. Issue #3 really focused on Bruce's family -- the one he made for himself -- and the one he never had. Now, he might have the chance to find happiness with someone who can be seen as his equal, but he would also become the adoptive father to twins -- the Joker's twins, to be exact. Even though Batman and Harley make an unlikely pairing, they make an odd amount of sense as a romantic item.
