That's always a good possibility...or maybe it was also to show that they still had a semi-strained relationship. If you think about it up until 3x24 I don't think Jim was mentioned that much and than when Kate got with Rick he was mentioned even more. Not sure if her walls coming down for Castle could've made her more prone to be open more to Jim or what.
