well, there's a deadly disease spreading all over the US all of a sudden and some chosen people are immune to it and they start to get visions about having to go the a safe place so they form groups and find their way there. there's an old woman there who's kind of a prophet of God and she encourages the community to go west where the evil has to be defeated (and he's responsible for the plague too). it's not a particularly original idea but it is fascinating
