I think it was obvious from the get-go that Finn and Rey were set up as platonic buddies who were on missions to find themselves.
She finds Kylo then along her journey, discovers he's not who she was led to believe. Hence, sparks fly and romance ensues.
I can see for sure which of the two pairings is the true love story in a romantic sense.
