I totally agree that the show was pointless without the Walshes. It felt like any other glamorous rich kids show without them at the heart of it.

I'm not sure at what point in S8 did Jason announced that he was leaving but I wonder if his cheating storyline was his punishment. I don't think I recall hearing Jason's opinion about Brandon's cheating storyline.

I've always believed this, too
The Powers That Be can be vindictive like that. Look at how they shut Brenda out of most of the group scenes in Season 4 (and even Season 3)
It would be interesting if somebody asked Jason his opinion on Season 8's direction, during interviews for the upcoming show
