I actually liked the fact that she chose herself. It was a funny twist that people interpreted as arrogant
but it made sense to preserve the Dylan and Brandon friendship that way.
I agree that the ring established long-term commitment for BK. That said, the way they built upto it (having her have some sort of fling with Dylan in secret) was gross.
