I don't know why the writers thought everybody loved Klaus.
Joseph Morgan had a certain charisma about him, but he clearly played a villain who relished being a villain. It wasn't like Spike in
Buffy who had been a tender poet in his human years and that carried on to his vampire life.
Klaus did bad things because he could. Because he was bored and lonely and wanted everybody else to feel as empty as him.
He bit Caroline because he couldn't have her. Before that, he made Tyler bite her because he wanted Tyler to suffer. Those two acts should make EVERYBODY see that he's not the right one for her. The Klaus/Caroline thing was toxic. He made Tyler leave town because he was jealous of their relationship. The whole thing was twisted.
