I find it hard to compare Connor to anyone else too, there's no one else who had been through the kind of things that he had been through.
Fred was probably the closest though, Pylea wasn't as bad as Quor-toth & Fred was only there for five years - which is still terrible, but Connor was there for 17, the trauma was going to effect him more & effect him for a lot longer.
I think that's why she tried to take his side more early on too, she didn't want Angel to leave him on his own
