I always found it interesting how Lucas was so passive and silent when they'd fight. He was defeated, deep down he knew there was nothing to fight for. Brooke knew it too but she still yelled and screamed her way through it because she didn't know what else to do. Lucas was waiting for her to finally end things. He waited for it, while doing nothing to improve things, because he craved the break up.
