Oh yes, there was a definite spark of connection between them in that scene. I think Bash admired her free-spirit, it reminded him much of his own. Not to mention, she wasn't afraid to look him in the eye, the illegitimate son, in front of a whole room full of people who probably talked about him behind his back. She saw him as just Bash, an equal and a potential friend. Not to mention the deeper kinship they were already starting to share this early.
Or maybe that's just all my head canon. I remember writing something like that before in a fic that never happened.
