While Chicago Med season 4 is going to have a great run on NBC this season, it looks like there’s going to be a big break in the middle of it.

Today, NBC announced that The Titan Games, a new series executive-produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is going to be premiering on Wednesday, January 2 with a two-hour premiere starting at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. Following that, it will air one-hour episodes in the 8:00 timeslot. This means that, for at least a good stretch of the winter, Chicago Med will be off the air.

So what does this mean for the medical drama? Not all that much other than that NBC wants to give a new show a chance, and in some ways it makes sense for them to do this rather than just scatter new episodes and repeats of Chicago Med over the course of the season. It’s possible they could still do something similar with both Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, though nothing has been confirmed just yet.

For those of you who do want more news on The Titan Games, each week contestants are going to take part in grueling challenges designed to push each person as far as possible. It’s also meant to have an inspirational angle for the audience watching at home. These competitions have been hit-or-miss over the years, but clearly NBC has had a great deal of success with American Ninja Warrior and want to find a way to replicate that elsewhere if at all possible. Given that Johnson is as notable as of an executive producer as they come, it makes sense to try out a project with his name attached to it.

Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to learn a little bit about the schedule for Chicago Med in the weeks to come, but we don’t anticipate any big news for the next few weeks.
