Biography

Christina Hendricks was born as Christina Rene Hendricks on 3 May 1975, in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. She holds an American nationality and she is of English ethnicity.

She is the daughter of Jackie Sue and Robert Hendricks. Her mother was a psychologist and her father worked for the United States Forest Service. She grew up in different places because of her father’s profession.

She was interested in modeling and acting since her childhood. She entered a local competition to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine and signed with a modeling agency at age of 18. After that, she moved to New York City in order to pursue her career in modeling and acting field.

When she was a teenager, her family relocated to Fairfax, Virginia, where she attended Fairfax High School.

After moving to New York City, Christina Hendricks began her career as a theater actress, acting in children’s musical theater productions in Twin Falls. At that time, she did modeling for several magazines and television advertisements.

She made her television acting début in 1999, playing Rhiannon in the MTV anthology series Undressed (1999). That same year, she appeared as Fawn in the TV film Sorority. Her first breakthrough role was Kelly Kramer in Beggars and Choosers (2000-2001). Her second big role was as Nicolette Raye in the television series Kevin Hill (2004-2005). Christina made her big screen debut playing Lily in La Cucina in 2007. After that, she appeared in several movies including South of Pico, Life as We Know It, All-Star Superman, and Struck By Lightning.

She appeared as Joan Harris in Mad Men (2007-2015) for which she won Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2012. Her performance in the series earned her several awards nominations including four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Currently, she portrays the role as Chair in the American period sitcom Another Period (2015-present).
