I think that there was just so much going on in the episode that TPTB didn't have the time to pack in everything that they could have.
Maybe there will be deleted scenes that pop up on the DVDs.
I'm just glad TPTB made it a point to show the bond between them, even though it was really a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of moment.
That's definitely a good headcanon to have. I can see it too.
