I recall someone telling me that when Kelly and Matt broke up towards the end of the series, it also served as her break up with Brandon (if Brandon had stayed). My argument was that even though Matt replaced Brandon, Brandon and Matt are two different people- and breaking up with one doesn't mean also breaking up with the other.
