yeah Peter has always been rather reckless and impulsive and very emotional, sometimes he lets his emotions cloud his better judgement, like the time when he found out his father Ego had killed his mum. So I wasn't surprised when he lost control after he found out Thanos had killed Gamora for the soul stone, his reaction was understandable and consistent with his character.
