Is Chicago Fire Staging a Major Shake-Up for Season 7?

After much delay, NBC finally dropped the news we've been waiting for all season: Chicago Fire has been renewed for Season 7! That's right, the firefighters of Firehouse 51 will be back for more heart-stopping drama next season. But don't break out the celebratory champagne just yet.

According to Deadline, there's a chance not everyone will be returning for Season 7. The trade reports that while Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney inked one-year deals to secure their spots for the new season, Eamonn Walker, Monica Raymund and David Eigenberg have not. In other words, there's a slight possibility that we could lose Boden, Dawson and Hermann next year, and that would be terrible.

Chicago Fire is an ensemble show anchored by an impressive group of characters we've gotten to know pretty well over the course of six seasons. And as we've seen with Otis (Yuri Sardarov) just a few weeks ago , even the thought of losing one member of the team is every bit soul-crushing. (Raise your hand if you're still emotionally scarred by Shay's [Lauren German] death back in Season 2.) Losing OGs Boden, Hermann or Dawson would not only be devastating, but downright unfathomable.

As the first character cast on the series, Boden has long been considered the heart and soul of Firehouse 51 so it's impossible to imagine not having him around every week. And while Season 6 teased the possibility of him being promoted to commissioner, showrunner Derek Haas previously told TV Guide that his upward move didn't necessarily mean he'd be gone from the series — suggesting he probably wants Boden to stick around just as much as we do.

And what would Fire be without its resident badass, Gabby Dawson? Whether she's fighting fires, kicking drunken frat boys out of her ambulance or saving everyone from a collapsed parking structure, Dawson has etched her spot as an essential member of the crew and one of our favorite people to watch every Thursday. Plus, there's no way the show can break up Dawsey! After all, they aren't just a ship — they are the ship and one of the best things about the series.

You also can't overlook the comedic and sometimes heartbreaking contributions made by Hermann, senior firefighter and resident Truck 81 favorite. Alongside Mouch (Christian Stolte), he is the perfect buffer to the show's more emotional moments. And given how intense things can get at the firehouse, we definitely need him to stick around.

We still don't know whether or not Walker, Raymund or Eigenberg will sign on for Season 7, but I'm holding out hope that they'll eventually come around and strike a deal. With bigger fires to tackle and more drama on the way, we need our team fully intact for Season 7. Besides, the show just wouldn't be the same without them.

I am opposed to anyone leaving.
