Yup! and that's what it did for Clark.
Lana leaving his life was a huge leap for his maturity... because that's when he decided he want to be out there actively saving people. The start of season 9 was the real start for it because he thought Lois had died, and Clark Kent "died" and he just started to be the Blur and ONLY save people and finally wanted to get his training for Jor-El.
