Yeah, I know, he wanted him back for one of the "My Struggle" installments. My point stands though, I really doubt he would have done that to him but Reyes was fair game. Like doing every reprehensible thing Scully suffered over the course of the whole show was totally fine, Mulder didn't have to go through any of this.
Yes, S8 had the carrot of Mulder's return, whereas we didn't get much of that in S9 but still I think they established that Reyes essentially became Scully's friend. I find that really hard to reconcile with what was done this season.
Who knows. I find that CC is in a hubris bubble where he likes to think that he is actually what makes the show great and people are not mainly tuning in for the Scully
and Mulder show.
