There was no way of winning in that situation, she either goes back to unhygienic conditions or goes back to an abusive home. I guess at least this way, with her back at what looked like the homeless camp, they know where she is and can check in on her. If she went back to the abusive home she could have ended up dead.
I kind of feel like Natalie gave those parents false hope. It was nice that they got to hold their son but she pretty much led them to believe he could survive when there was no chance.
