I blame my parents because I honestly believe that your love of that movie is the direct correlation to equating it to your childhood and that nostalgic feeling. I never saw it as a kid so I didn't have that connection.
I was weird though, my favorite movies as a kid were Little Shop of Horrors and Tremors, I kid you not.
