I think the reason why you felt that the show demonstrates that Joey will always love Dawson is because: that is what the show was always about (until the final fifteen minutes). The writers, producers, etc. all confirm that the idea, all through all 6 seasons, was to show the journey of Dawson and Joey, and to end with them together. Even writers who joined in Season 4 and who were (and are) committed Pacey/Joey shippers, have confirmed this. Then KW changed his mind (for some very problematic reasons). The consistent thread all the way through the six seasons is Dawson/Joey's relationship. That relationship is the 'heart' of the show.
