In my favorite tale so far, they eventually do take things to the next level, but I mainly enjoy it because it's beautifully written and has solid characterization. It explores what the girls are going through as their feelings change.
I never longed for that to happen on the show, but some of the testimonials and stories I read make me think that it actually would've been interesting, regardless of the outcome.
