Bob Clark who wrote and directed the first two movies (and "A Christmas Story") was asked to do the third film. He was busy directing "Rhinestone" and said he would have to see if he could come up with a storyline he liked. Well, the producers weren't waiting around for him and they hired a guy to write a script. Bob was so furious that they went ahead and did this behind his back that he refused to have anything to do with the movie.
