Because there's a negative stigma attached to the Joker/Harley relationship as depicted in other media, it becomes easy to dismiss the one thing that sets the DCEU's version apart: genuine reciprocal love.

Yes, their relationship is toxic and unhealthy in the DCEU just as it is everywhere else, but not because its misogynistic or abusive or rooted in obsession. It's toxic and unhealthy because both participants are severely screwed up as individuals and only exacerbate the other's issues when they're together. It may be messed-up love, but it's still love, and it's an aspect of the DCEU's take on the characters that I don't think gets enough attention paid to it, which is a shame.
