You forgot that River was their daughter? It was the most absurd thing that Moffat did on the show.
Ah, I see. I never really minded Donna, but then I really wasn't watching the show at that point, so I didn't get much of her "humor." I didn't start watching DW again until Matt Smith came along.
Well, Martha was just a weak character all around. She was more like a companion from the 5 through 7 era.

I just think that both shows eventually bored me after a while. But I agree the reason that Elementary has lasted longer is that it's more procedural and less gimmicky. And Lucy Liu was great.
But I'm now watching Scorpion.
