I think you are right about the hunt. The hunter did make a comment about how Alan was a coward and always ran. Maybe that's part of it too. Although now I'm curious why/how the hunter got stuck in the jungle.
You mean how Alan and Sara remember the kids? For some reason they kept the memories when they were transported back.
