Spider-Man and X-Men went from having four titles each to just one or two. The cosmic titles like Quasar and Adam Warlock and the Infinity Watch also tanked. It was a tough time for Marvel.
Actually Marvel went bankrupt in the '90s because the collectors' market tanked and everybody had assumed it would make so much money.

And anyway, commercial success or the lack thereof is never an indication of artistic quality or the lack thereof. People tend to like crap (Spider Man: Homecoming, anyone?) and they tend to disike good quality. Marvel put out some of its best comics in the '90s. If people didn't like them that doesn't say much in favour of people.

There were a lot more than four X-books in the '90s and they ended up with a lot more than two. Spider-Man had more than four titles and ended up with two and the latter strategy was John Byrne's idea. As for Quasar, I never had any use for that idiot. Good riddance.
