The only reason I expect anything or feel disappointed is because they promised and assured me through dialogue that this would happen. If they weren't sure of anything then they should know better than to have Bash make that promise and in fact even say that he's sure this would happen. They put themselves in a box the moment they did that when they could have changed the dialogue to having no promises or not have him say that he's sure of this.
If they left it open ended, I wouldn't have liked it but I'd understand why. But they locked themselves into a narrative problem which they are now retroactively trying to fix with the comments about Bash's fate.
