The WB with some shows were more cautious as to actors having dark story lines. I hear with Dawson's Creek at one point the writers thinking of having Joey on drugs. But the network didn't like it.
Remember it was the 90's early 2000. Think of Saved by the Bell with "I'm so excited I'm so sacred" It was over caffeine pills!
Oh how in 20210 one of the characters was hooked on diet pills and then at the end of the episode it was all hugs and smiles.
I heard the WB network wanted the network to be more family. The frst episode of Buffy they gave a warning saying how it was violent.
So I think they wanted Jason to act less emotional in that crash can scene but he went there regardless so what I hear.
