My father is more a War and Peace (the novel) type person. I read some of that myself during my teens. I prefer Dostoyevsky to Tolstoy, though. And Clarke Ashton Smith and Edgar Allan Poe to Dostoyevsky. Dostoyevsky was a big Poe fan. My mother reads a wide range of things. She liked Dune too, but agrees with my view that Frank Herbert should have stuck to the one Dune book and not continued the series and run the story into the ground.
