Biography
Acclaimed actor Lance Reddick brings his signature gravitas and intensity to the role of Special Agent Phillip Broyles,
the Homeland Security Agent who leads the U.S. Government’s official investigation into “The Pattern.” And 2009 was Reddick’s year to shine.
Not only did he have a starring role on a hit mainstream show, but J.J. Abrams asked him to reprise his role as Matthew Abbadon on the hit series “Lost.”
This twofer had the science fiction and fantasy bloggers and fanboys speculating on the relationship between the two shows and its characters.
That popularity also landed him major features in publications such as People, Ebony and the Los Angeles Times. Lance also appeared on
the big screen co-starring in producer Lee Daniels’ independent feature film “Tennessee,” opposite Mariah Carey.
Reddick is best known for his ability to play multidimensional, complicated and strong characters on a multitude of television programs and films.
He came to prominence for his memorable role of Lt. Cedric Daniels on HBO’s critically acclaimed series “The Wire.” This series not only brought him
a global fan base, but was arguably known as one of the best shows on television during its successful five-year run.
Reddick considers his breakout role to be playing detective John Basil (aka. Mobey) on HBO’s “Oz.” He is also known for his outstanding work on
shows such as “The Corner” and recurring roles on “CSI: Miami” and “Law & Order: SVU,” as well as the Showtime film “Keep the Faith Baby,”
with Harry Lennix. Other feature work includes appearing opposite Daniel Craig and Kim Basinger in “I Dreamed of Africa,” “The Siege” for director
Ed Zwick, Alfonso Cuaron’s “Great Expectations,” the indie film “Bad City” (aka “Dirty Work”) and “Way Of War,” with Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Reddick, the son of two public school teachers, attended the University of Rochester before transferring to the
prestigious Eastman School of Music, where he majored in classical composition for four years before admitting that his heart lay with pop music.
In his twenties, he struggled to make it as a musician and decided to try acting as a way to help jumpstart his music career. He was quickly cast
in local stage productions, and one year later, on a lark, he applied to the Yale School of Drama.
Two weeks after graduating from Yale in 1994, Reddick was cast as the understudy for Jeffrey Wright in “Angels in America.” His other theater
productions include “Henry V,” “Julius Caesar,” “Afterplay,” “On House” and the critically acclaimed 2006 Off-Broadway revival of August
Wilson’s “7 Guitars,” in which Reddick played Floyd.
In 2006, Reddick launched YNC Films with the vision to produce small, multi-ethnic, talent-driven, artistically sophisticated and socially complex films,
and is currently developing a script by Bruce Terrace, the director and co-writer of “Bad City.”
An accomplished musician, Lance shows a different side to his acting persona writing and composing music. He wrote, composed and sang all the
songs on his debut
album Contemplations & Remembrances, a contemporary collection of Jazz music currently available for view and purchase online.
Reddick divides his time between Los Angeles and Vancouver.
