Generally the periods when Hercules was an Avenger are some of my favorite periods of the Avengers -in the late '60s for a year and mid '80s. He was with them in the early '90s too, but quality was lower then. Still I have some nostalgia for early '90s Avengers anyway, though don't mention the mid '90s, when Herc lost his immortality, Thor lost his powers and everything Avengers got really screwed up. That's when they made Iron Man a minion of a major supervillain. Hercules embodies a kind of vigorous spirit, sense of fun and emotionality that I can relate to. He's not a tame character and he has a lot of personality. Of course by now Marvel has ruined him by taking away all his power (he used to be a Hulk/Thor level strongman and that's crucial to his whole identity -he's God of Strength, after all), but to hell with modern Marvel comics anyway.
