IMO Carrie was just Burger's rebound relationship.
Many people believed that Burger was too insecure about Carrie's success (which was a big problem too).
But IMO he mostly wasn't over all the heartache from previous relationship yet. If it wasn't Carrie's success, it would have been something else.
If he was over his previous relationship, Burger and Carry might have been even able to overcome his insecurity.
