Season 2 was the toughest for me to watch because of two reasons. First was Amy's depression which was depicted quite realistically, but this also made it difficult to watch. And then there is the lack of Amy/Ephram scenes.

I agree with you that the theme of Season 2 was to show the wrong pairings, but maybe the contrast would have worked out better if they also showed scenes with the right ones for some sort of comparison.
