John Byrne is British by birth, Canadian by upbringing and American by naturalization. His being Canadian is why Wolverine survived as a character and didn't get dumped back in the '70s. Wolverine was about to get dumped when John Byrne joined the X-Men creative team and he decided "They're not dumping the one Canadian character just when I join", so Wolverine stayed around and got developed and became a fan favorite. Byrne wasn't just doing the art on the X-Men, he was co-writer too. The Claremont/Byrne run on the X-Men is one of the most classic. It includes the Days of Future Past storyline, the Dark Phoenix Saga, the introduction of Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost and the Hellfire Club, and other stories. Along with the introduction of Alpha Flight, the first ever Canadian superhero team.
