^Yeah I really liked that Kai was calling him out on this believe that he could be redeemed if he stopped killing but didn't really think of all the victims he has killed in the past.
And his reckless and immature behaviour in regards to Elena was also clear in 8x11 when Cade told him that Stefan is on the way to kill Elena and he thought by killing those 100 people Cade wanted would stop this. He didn't care about the lady he killed.
It is eight seasons now and he still hasn't progressed in that regard.
