Wow, almost five years between posts. I wouldn't have minded seeing more of a connection between these two. I do, however think that what we did see from them was a perfect and natural by product of what she was going through at the time. That Season 7 arc for Darcy is really a strong one, it's on my short list for best ever in season arcs for a character.
