I have to agree. Mary was annoying me a lot during those episodes without Francis in Season 1. Not as bad as Season 2, but... there were times I was really frustrated with her. Obviously, I understood where she was coming from. I mean...Catherine had tried to kill her! But I still sympathized more with Catherine.
