I think Cory was the character within this trio that would most likely be in need of comfort or a venting session.
Topanga was his significant other and love is never smooth sailing. He would probably be frustrated that Topanga was upset with him that he had done something but that he was clueless about why she was upset...so he would turn to Shawn for a brainstorming session or a venting session to figure it out.
And Shawn was his best friend, and even best friends fight. When they would have their little lover's spats and he wasn't sure what to do, he would turn to Topanga to comfort him about the fight.
