^ In my happy little headcanon, Shawn and Jack have kept in touch since they went their separate ways back in Philadelphia and Jack could tell that Shawn had started to really care for/love Maya and Katy. Maybe he got a feeling that she would be his niece eventually, so he made an effort to really connect with her.
