Okay, main thing to know about Brainiac without giving any spoilers.

Brainiac = Evil, difficult to kill, one of Superman main villains, has a lot of powers. lol A super genius, Member of the Legion of Doom! usually in partnership with Lex Luthor. Nice how much he doesn't like him on Smallville though.

Brainiac 5 - Brainiac memories, member of the "Legion" rebuilt, good. Wants Clark to see him as an ally however, because of his past with evil Brainiac, Superman has a difficult time trusting him...... He also falls for Supergirl....

That doesn't spoil anything about the show, just gave you a little bit of details on him.
