Exactly! The people around her can say that they understand and they can be there for her, but they don't really understand. Shawn, on the other hand, has been through the same things, so when he says that he knows how she feels or that he went through a similar experience, she knows that he does and that he did. She doesn't have to explain anything. She can just say what's going on in her head, and he'll get it right away.
