I think it was more like a warning from Damon that he could get Bonnie hurt because that thing knows he loves her.
I think it was the same reason why Damon flipped the switch. Not because of the terrible things he had to do, but to keep that little mermaid from knowing who he cares about so they won't get hurt/killed.
And yes I loved all the Bonnie/Enzo flashbacks
. I didn't watch last season, but I saw a lot of gifs on my dash of them and thought they were cute. And seeing it now they really are adorable.
