I experienced the same in England. But the Germans aren't that differen't. It's one thing to speak about emotions with befriended people but when you hardly know someone it's hard.
I saw a report on TV recently with an American in London who felt the same way. He drove with the tube every day and nobody wanted to talk to him. Then he created buttons that say:"I want to talk, please speak to me." Very funny
