Even though I understand how they could have gone without checking in on or seeing each other for years, it still makes me sad too.

Now that I think about it, that's the feeling that I got from
Semi Formal. Eric did say that he knows what his friends are up.
He must have known enough about what was going on in Jack's life so that he could be there if they ever need him.
