Hayes Morrison

A social agitator as cynical as she is smart.
She is best known for her wild teenage years
in the White House and proclivity to wind up on TMZ.
But a cocaine bust is one misstep with consequences
this former First Daughter can't dodge. Luckily Hayes'
powerful mother, Harper, along with her occasional fling
and former boss, Wallace, offer an ultimatum – jail time,
or run New York City's new Conviction Integrity Unit. Never
one to be controlled, Hayes decides to use the opportunity
and her brilliant legal mind to challenge the status quo.
Alongside her eclectic and intelligent CIU team, Hayes will
do whatever it takes to discover the truth, fighting for those
overlooked by a flawed and fractured system.

Conner Wallace

New York County's District Attorney and the
brainchild of the CIU. An equal and former legal adversary to
Hayes, Wallace intends on using her team to benefit his own
political aspirations. But politics truly makes strange bedfellows
and his professional and romantic history with Hayes, along with
his strong ties to her powerful family, helped motivate Wallace to
cover up Hayes' drug bust. Regardless of their past, Wallace does
believe she is truly the best candidate to run the CIU. Even if this
means that he'll have to clean up yet another one of her public
controversies. While sparks fly between them, other fires may threaten
to spotlight some of Wallace's secrets, threatening his career, along with
the Morrison family dynasty.

Sam Spencer

The intended leader of the CIU, that is, until Wallace gave
his job to Hayes. Sam had previously worked as a Prosecutor
in the grueling world of the city's gang unit. Wallace's golden boy,
Sam reluctantly accepted Hayes as his new boss – at least for the
time being. Sam is determined to prevent Hayes, and her wild antics
from destroying his opportunity of one day taking over the CIU. But
even as Sam remains steadfast in his commitment to being a "good
guy," the methods he employs in the pursuit of justice will become
increasingly questionable.

Maxine Bohen

A former detective and 2nd generation NYPD, Maxine is no fan
of Hayes Morrison and her family. Maxine's ex-brothers in blue distrust
the CIU and see her involvement with it as a threat towards their fraternity.
But Maxine understands that uncovering the truth, no matter who it impacts,
is why she became a cop. This doesn't mean Maxine is free from her own
past mistakes. And as she juggles her new job, being a mother, and living
outside the thin blue line, her dark past may seep its way back into her life.

Franklin "Frankie" Cruz

The CIU's forensic expert, Frankie is also an ex-con. He uses his book and
street smarts to solve complex science based mysteries, as well as shed a
light on the difficult lives their clients suffer behind bars. During his own
incarceration, Frankie coped by studying the ins and outs of forensic science.
He also developed a romantic relationship with his cellmate. This profound and
meaningful connection will complicate Frankie's life.

Tess Larson

The CIU's paralegal and Innocence Project alum, Tess Larson is the
youngest member of the team. That is not to say she's naïve, as Tess
has first-hand experience with wrongful convictions. As a child, her faulty
eyewitness testimony sent an innocent man to jail. This is her secret cross
to bear and she is now committed to correcting these life-changing wrongs
at the CIU. Caring and empathic, Tess can truly relate not only to clients,
but her new teammates and Frankie. The two share a unique bond and
despite their many differences, their friendship is a glimmer of hope in their
difficult and taxing job.
